  W: I’ve just heard we’ll h ave a class meeting tomorrow afternoon?

M: Yes, I put up the notice just now.

W: What time will it begin?

  M: At three ten.

W: Sarah and I made a date to go over our lessons together. I wonder how long the meeting is going to last.

M: I don’t think it will take more than an hour.

M: I’d like to mail this package.

  W: Where is it going?

  M: To China.

  W: Let’s see. It weighs 1.25 kilograms.

W: How would you like to send it?

  M: By air.

W: By air? That would be 8 dollars.

M: That’s kind of expensive. Is there a cheaper way to send it?

W: By ground, it would be two dollars fifty.

M: Sounds better. How long would it take to get there?

W: You can never tell. One or two months.

M: In that case, I’d rather send it by air. And it would get there in two weeks?

M: I really love this kind of atmosphere.

W: You know, impressive offices are important to the image of a company.

M: There are people everywhere. What’s that girl doing?

W: She’s dealing with customers’ new business. The guy next to her is in charge of the office computer network.

  Text 10

My favorite classic novel is the Adventure of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Tom lives with his aunt Polly on a quiet street in St. Petersburg. He is a lively, clever boy, and he finds himself in many exciting adventures. He runs away with his two friends, Huck and Joe to the island in the middle of Mississippi River for several days. They go looking for treasure. They get lost in the cave. And finally, they find the box of gold. My favorite scene in the book is when everyone thinks Tom is dead, he decides to go to his own funeral. He hides and watches for a long time and then suddenly he appears. Everyone is surprised to see him. But they’re also pleased to see him alive. Tom is the hero of the story, and Injun Joe is the bad man of the story. The theme of the story is about children growing up. We learn about the American culture in the book. Finally it talks about freedom, social rules and how people punish bad behavior. The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is great. It’s thought to be one of the greatest novels in American literature. Go on, read it! I think you’ll love it.
